THE EFFECTIVENESS OF COOPERATIVE SCRIPT TO ENHANCE THE STUDENTS’ SPEAKING SKILL AT ENGLISH EDUCATION DEPARTMENT OF MUHAMMADIYAH UNIVERSITY OF PURWOREJO
Abstract
This study is aimed at finding out whether the use of cooperative script effective to improve the students’ speaking skill. The researchers take two classes as the subject of the research. As the experimental class, the researchers take class IIB. This class is going to be taught using cooperative script. Then as the control class, the researchers take class IID. The researchers are going to teach using drilling method. The researchers used a test to gather the data. Descriptive statistics and inferential statistics are employed to analyze the data. After having a series of calculation, the researchers have some findings. First, the mean score of the students’ speaking skill after being taught using cooperative method is significantly improved. There is an improvement 7.73 points from 67.07 to 74.80, and second, the result of calculation illustrates that tobtained > ttable (2.144 > 2.002). It means that the hypothesis which says the use of cooperative learning is effective in enhancing the students’ speaking skill in the first semester of English Education Department of Muhammadiyah University in 2012/2013 academic year is accepted.
