THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING LEGEND CARTOON MOVIE IN TEACHING WRITING OF NARRATIVE TEXT AT THE TENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMA N 1 BINANGUN IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2014/2015

Abstract


The aim of this research is to know whether there is an effectiveness of using legend cartoon movie as media in teaching writing skills of narrative text to the tenth grade students of SMA N 1 Binangun in the academic year of 2014/2015. The type of the research is experimental research. The population of this research is the tenth grade students of SMA N 1 Binangun in the academic year 2014/2015. The sample of this research is two classes which are divided into experimental group (X-MIA 1, 31 students) and control group (X-MIA 3, 31 students). The sampling technique is purposive sampling technique. The researcher uses two variables. The independent variable (X) is the use of legend cartoon movie and the dependent variable (Y) isthe students’ writing skill of narrative text. In this research, the researcher uses pre-test and post-test to get the data. Between pre-test and post-test, the researcher gave treatment by using legend cartoon movie. Statistically, the researcher analyzed the data by using t-test separated variance.

The result of this research shows that there is effectiveness of teaching writing narrative text using legend cartoon movie, since it is found that the result of t-value is 5.182. Based on the 0.05 significance level, the value of t-table is 2.000. The mean of score experimental group was 78.42 and it is belonge to good category. While the control group was 70.45 and it is belonged to good category.

The computation shows that t-value is higher than t-table, so it means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. The research findings indicate that the students are interested in learning writing narrative text using legend cartoon movie as media.
