THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING PICTURE IN TEACHING DESCRIPTIVE TEXT TO IMPROVE THE WRITING SKILL OF THE SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP N 3 KALIKAJAR IN 2012/2013 ACADEMIC YEAR

Abstract


The objectives of this research are to describe the level of students’ writing skill after being taught by picture and to know whether using picture is effective or not in teaching descriptive text to improve students’ writing skill. Picture is a visual method that helps the students to organize the text well and to develop their ideas in writing. The mean score of experimental group was 71.44 and it was belonged to good category. While the control group was 64.31 and it was belonged to sufficient category. It can be concluded the score from experimental group was higher than control group. The result of t-value was 6.285. It was higher than t-table 2.000. It means that using picture is effective to improve writing skill of descriptive text of the seventh grade students at SMP N 3 Kalikajar in 2012/ 2013 academic year.
