A CORRELATION STUDY BETWEEN STUDENTS’ READING ABILITY AND THEIR TRANSLATION ABILITY OF THE FOURTH SEMESTER STUDENTS OF ENGLISH DEPARTMENT AT MUHAMMADIYAH UNIVERSITY OF PURWOREJO IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2012/2013
Abstract
In this research, the researcher would like to know whether there is a correlation between student’s English reading ability and student’s English translation ability of the fourth semester students of English Department at Muhammadiyah University of Purworejo or not. The researcher design of this study is using quantitative approach that the design of this research is correlation descriptive design. The population of this research is the students of the fourth semester of English Department at Muhammadiyah University of Purworejo. The total number is 251 students. The sample that is taken from class A and B with 61 students.The result of this research shows that the correlation between the student’s reading ability and student’s English translation ability of the fourth semester of English Department at Muhammadiyah University of Purworejo is high. It is proven from the result of correlation coefficient product moment. It shows that observed r (0. 623) it is includes to the table interpretation between 0.600 till with 0.800 in the level of high interpretation. Then, the hypothesis which states there is significant correlation between student’s English reading ability and student’s English translation ability in the fourth semester of English Department at Muhammadiyah University of Purworejo is accepted in the level of high interpretation
