THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING SITUATIONAL PICTURE CARD TO ENHANCE STUDENT’S SPEAKING SKILL AT THE TENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMK BKM BEKASI IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2012/2013
Abstract
This final project is experimental research. The aim of the study was to increase students' interest in learning and applying effective strategies and beneficial for students to increase their proficiency in the English language in particular to increase speaking skill to the tenth grade students of SMK BKM Bekasi. One of the appropriate media that can be functioned to enhance students’ speaking skill is Situational Picture Card. In this study, experimental research was used to obtain the information related to the research problems. In this study test is conducted to find out whether there are significant chances in experimental group after being given situational picture or not. The result of this study showed that teaching speaking by using Situational Picture Card can increase the students’ speaking skill. Based on the result of pre-test and post-test, the mean score of the pre-test was 64.04. Meanwhile, the mean score of post-test was 74.04. It means that there was an improvement on the students’ speaking skill. In addition, the result of the computation of t-value (t-test) is 5.585. The computation shows that t-value is higher than t-table that is 5.585 > 2.00. So the hypothesis is accepted. After computing t-test separated variance, and after knowing that the hypothesis is accepted. It means that there is significant effective of using Situational Picture Card as a technique in teaching speaking to improve students speaking to the tenth grade students of SMK BKM Bekasi.
