AN ANALYSIS OF ENGLISH PRONOUNS IN THE NOVEL ENTITLED TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE WRITTEN BY MITCH ALBOM
Abstract
The purpose of this research is to find out, classify the kind of pronouns and describe the function of pronouns used in the novel entitled Tuesdays with Morrie written by Mitch Albom. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. The researcher analyzes the data by reading the novel, collecting the data, and analyzing the data by identifying and classifying the kinds of English pronouns. The result of this study shows that there are eight kinds of English pronouns from the analysis of data. They are personal pronouns, possessive pronouns, reflexive pronouns, relative pronouns, interrogative pronouns, demonstrative pronouns, indefinite pronouns, and reciprocal pronouns. Overall, the kind of English pronouns that becomes dominant is personal pronouns. They have some functions which are found in this research. The function of personal pronouns is used to indicate the subject or the object of a sentence, possessive pronouns is used to show the possession, reflexive pronouns is used to indicate reflexively and emphasize as a substitute personal pronoun, relative pronouns is used to connect two clauses, interrogative pronouns is used to ask the question with the wh-series which is like the relative pronouns, demonstrative pronouns is used to point out something, indefinite pronouns is used to be indefinite number or quantity of people or things, reciprocal pronouns is used to combine the ideas in the same way between two people or a group of people.
