THE ANALYSIS OF ENGLISH-INDONESIAN TRANSLATION STRATEGIES USED BY THE TENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF MAN PURWOREJO IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2012/2013
Abstract
The aim of this research is to identify the types of English-Indonesian translation strategies used by the tenth grade students of MAN Purworejo in the academic year 2012/2013. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative research. The researcher collects the data by comparing the original sentences and its translation, coding the sentences, analyzing the data according to Hariyanto’s theory, making percentages, and drawing the conclusion. The result shows that the students use eleven translation strategies in translating news item text. Those are addition (10.08%), subtraction (20.15%), and transposition (34.88%), borrowing (14.73%), reduction (0.78%), expansion (4.65%), synonym (6.20%), deletion/omission (1.55%), addition (5.43%), formal translation (0.78%) and modulation strategy (0.78%). The most dominant type of translation strategy used by the sudents is transposition strategy.
