THE EFFECT OF JOINING ENGLISH CLUB ON STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION OF THE ELEVENTH GRADE OF SMK N 2 PURWOREJO IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2012/ 2013
Abstract
The aims of this research is to find out whether there is any significant difference of the students reading comprehension who joined the English Club and those who did not.The result of this research shows that the mean score of the reading comprehension of the eleventh grade of SMK N 2 Purworejo who joined the English Club was in good category. The mean score of the reading comprehension of the eleventh grade of SMK N 2 Purworejo who did not join the English Club was in sufficient category and there is any significant difference between the reading comprehension ability of the students who joined the English Club and that of those who did not. It was found that the result of t-value is 6.849. Based on the 0.05 significant level, the value of t-table is 2.000, the computation shows that t-value is higher than that of t-table (6.849>2.000). However, if it is seen from both the students’ reading comprehension, the mean score of the students’ reading comprehension who joined the English Club test is higher than the mean score of the students’ reading comprehension who did not join the English Club test (70>65.0476).
