THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING COOPERATIVE INTEGRATED READING AND COMPOSITION (CIRC) METHOD TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION AT THE ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS’ OF SMK TI KARTIKA CENDEKIA PURWOREJO IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2012/2013
Abstract
The objectives of the study are to find out whether there is effectiveness of using Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) method to improve students reading comprehension of the eleventh grade students’ of SMK TI Kartika Cendekia Purworejo and to know whether CIRC gives positive contributions to the students’ reading comprehension. The type of this research is quantitative and using experimental research. The total sample is 54 students divided into two groups, the experimental group is 27 students (XI TKJ) and the control group is 27 students (XI Multimedia). In collecting data, the researcher using reading test. The pre-test and post-test of reading consist 20 items of multiple choice. The result of the research finds that the mean score of pre-test in experimental group is 41.88 and the mean score of post-test is 82.88. While the mean score of pre-test in control group is 49.42 and the mean score of post-test is 70.00. Then the value of t-test is 4.55 and the t-table is 2.000. The result of computation shows that t-value is higher than t-table, that is 4.55>2.000 so it can be stated that the hypothesis “Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) as a Method to improve students’ reading comprehension is accepted.
