THE EFFECTIVENESS OF PAIR WORK TECHNIQUE IN DIALOGUE TO IMPROVE THE STUDENTS’ SPEAKING ABILITY OF THE TENTH GRADE STUDENT OF SMK NEGERI 8 PURWOREJO IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2012 /2013

Abstract


This final project is experimental research. The aim of the study is to increase students' interest in learning and applying effective strategies and beneficial for students to improve their proficiency in the English language in particular to improve speaking ability to the tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 8 Purworejo. The researcher used pair work as a technique to improve students speaking ability. The sample of this study are two classes. The first class is TSM A as the control group and the second classes Busana Butik as an experimental group. Both classes consist of 33 students. The researcher uses Purposive sampling because taking samples with a specific purpose. The spoken test was used to know students’ improvement that was taught by using pair work. The researcher tested the students’ speaking achievement by giving pre-test and post-test. In collecting the data, the researcher used test as the instrument. This research is a quantitative research, so it needs a data analysis. The result of this study shows that teaching speaking by using pair work can improve the students’ speaking ability. Based on the result, the mean score of the post-test control group was 63. Meanwhile, the mean score of post-test experimental group was 72. The result of the computation of t-value (t-test) is 6.290. The computation shows that t-value is higher than t-table that is 6.290 > 2.042. So the hypothesis is accepted.
