A Correlation Between Vocabulary Mastery and Reading Comprehension Ability Among Eight Grade Students of SMP N 2 Ambal in the Academic Year of 2012/2013

Abstract


The main objective of the thesis is to find out whether there is any correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension ability. Besides, this study is also aimed to describe how far is the correlation between  vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension ability. This research belonged to correlation of study. The respondent was 42 students in eight grade students of SMP N 2 Ambal in the academic year of 2012/2013. They were taken by using saturated sampling. In collecting data, the researcher used document. The document was used to know the result of vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension ability. This method of research is quantitative research. Based on the computation of Pearson correlation product moment, the data was calculated both by manually and by SPSS program version 16. Based on the computation, the researcher found two things. First, there is a positive and significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension among eight grade students of SMP N 2 Ambal. Second, the correlation between the result vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension from students in eight grade students of SMP N 2 Ambal in the academic year of 2012/2013 was 0.652 and it is categorized as high correlation.
