THE APPROPRIATENESS OF TEXTBOOK “LOOK AHEAD I” WITH THE SCHOOL-BASED CURRICULUM (KTSP): A CONTENT ANALYSIS OF GENRE AND LANGUAGE FEATURES AT SMA MUHAMMADIYAH 1 WONOSOBO

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out whether the genre and the linguistic features of texts on Look Ahead I is appropriate or not to the SBC (KTSP) syllabi. The subject of the research is “Look Ahead I” book and the object is genre reading and language features. This research is included descriptive qualitative research. The data collected is in the form of words of pictures rather than number. In the result of the first analysis, researcher found that there are six type of texts developed on this book. They are recount, description, narrative, procedure, news item, and analytical exposition. In the result of the second analysis by making percentage into diagram or graphic. The researcher found there are 12 Narrative texts with percentage 20%, 14 recount texts with percentage 23%, 11 procedure texts with percentage 18%, 9 news item texts with percentage 15%, 12 descriptive texts with 20%, and 3 other text with percentage 5%. The result of the third analysis is that from the diagram, the researcher discovered 96% of the whole of texts on Look Ahead I is appropriate to the SBC (KTSP) syllabi and 4% is inappropriate. The percentage of appropriate text is higher than inappropriate one; thus, it can be concluded that genres of this book (Look Ahead) is appropriate with SBC (KTSP) syllabi.
