CHARACTER ANALYSIS OF NANISCA IN THE WOMAN KING MOVIE FOR TEACHING READING
Abstract
This study aims to analyze the character of Nanisca in the movie The Woman King and its application in teaching narrative to high school students. Based on the aims of the study, the main focus was to identify the characterization of Nanisca using Carl Jung's archetype theory and to explore how to apply the results of the analysis in teaching strategies. A descriptive qualitative approach was used in this study, with the main data in the form of dialogues and scenes in the movie analyzed using literature methods and classifications based on archetypes, such as Hero, Shadow, and Persona. The results of the study shows that Nanisca represented several archetypes, with the hero archetype being the most dominant, accounting for 24.5%. The Shadow and Self archetypes accounted for 16.5%. Persona and Anima each made up 15%. The Wise Old Man (7%) and Great Mother (5.5%). The finding of this study can be applied in teaching reading.
