The Effectiveness of Giving Feedback Towards the Students’ Reading Ability in the Eleventh Grade Students of SMA Negeri 8 Purworejo in the Academic Year 2016/2017

Abstract


This study is aimed at finding out whether the use of giving feedback is effective to improve the students’ reading ability. The researcher take two classes as the subject of the research. As the experimental class, the researcher take class XI IPA 4. This class is going to get feedback. Then as the control class, the researchers take class XI IPA 2. The researchers used a test to gather the data. Descriptive statistics and inferential statisticsare employed to analyse the data. After having a series of calculation, the researchers have some findings. First, the mean score of the students’ reading ability after getting feedback is significantly improved. There is an improvement 18.12 points from 47.66 to
65.78, and second, the result of calculation illustrates that tobtained> ttable (6.592 > 1.999). It means that the hypothesis which says giving feedback is effective in enhancing the students’ reading ability in the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 8 Purworejo in the
academic year 2016/107 is accepted.
