THE EFFECTIVENESS OF TEACHING ENGLISH VOCABULARY USING SEMANTIC MAPPING TECHNIQUE AT THE SEVENTH GRADE OF ISLAMIC JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL OF TARBIYATUL ULUM TIRTOMOYO KEBUMEN IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2012/2013
Abstract
The aim of this research is to know whether there is any effectiveness of using semantic mapping technique in teaching English vocabulary to the seventh grade of Islamic Junior High School of Tarbiyatul Ulum Titrtomoyo, Kebumen in the academic year of 2012/2013.In this research, the researcher took 66 students. The researcher conducted pre-test and post-test. The researcher uses semantic mapping technique to teach English vocabulary. Statically, the researcher analyzed the data by using t-test. The result of the research shows that teaching English vocabulary using semantic mapping technique is effective. Since it was found that the result of the t-value is 3.39 based on the 0.05 significance level, the value of the t-table is 2.00. The computation shows that the t-value is higher than t-table that is 3.39>2.00. So, it can be stated that the alternative hypothesis” the use of semantic mapping to improve vocabulary mastery at the students to the seventh grade of Islamic Junior High School of Tarbiyatul Ulum Titrtomoyo, Kebumen in the academic year of 2012/2013 is effective.
