A STUDY ON DIFFICULTIES STUDENTS THE USE OF DIRECT AND INDIRECT SPEECH: A CASE STUDY OF THE 1st YEAR STUDENT OF SUDIRMAN ISLAMIC SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL OF PURWOREJO IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2012/2013
Abstract
This study is purposed to know the ability and the difficulties of the students by identifying the grammatical error in making direct and indirect speech. The test- takers of this study are the 1st year students of Sudirman Islamic senior high school of purworejo in the academic year of the 2012/2013”.
The findings of the analysis show that first: the 1st year students of Sudirman Islamic state senior high school of Purworejo have got 68 % in mastering direct and indirect speech (fair). In the statement type, they have got 67 % (fair); Command type 71 % (fair); Question type 67% (fair); second; they are some error of students in use of direct and indirect speech in writing. The students occasionally omit some grammatical morphemes; add some items which must not appear in the right utterance, supply incorrect morpheme or structure, and disorder in contractions that require a reversal of word – order rules.
