The Effectiveness of Using Authentic Material to Improve Students’ Ability in Reading Descriptive Text for the First Grade Students of MAN Kutowinangun in the Academic Year of 2012/ 2013

Abstract


This study is aimed at improving students’ ability in reading descriptive text for the first grade students of MAN Kutowinangun. First, to know students’ reading ability after being taught by Authentic Material. Second, to find out the effectiveness of using Authentic Material in improving students’ reading ability. This study can be categorized as experimental quantitative research. Authentic materials are ones which can be very interesting and resourceful that the students can deal with to improve their reading ability in the class. The result of the study shows that there is an increase of students’ ability after being taught by using authentic materials. The computation showed that t-value was higher than t-table, that is 2.57>2.000. It means that using Authentic Material is effective to improve students’ ability in reading descriptive text for the first grade students of MAN Kutowinangun in the academic year of 2012/ 2013.
