THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING FOOD PACKAGES IN IMPROVING ENGLISH VOCABULARY MASTERY AT THE SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP NEGERI 23 PURWOREJO IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2012/2013
Abstract
English becomes compulsory subject for junior high school students. In fact, the students at this age are still lack of vocabulary. In this research the researcher use food packages as the which is easy to understand and to remember vocabulary.The aim of this research is to find out whether the use of food packages is effective or not in improving English vocabulary mastery at the seventh grade students of SMP N 23 Purworejo in the academic year 2012/2013.
The type of research is experimental research. In this research, the researcher takes 64 students of VII D and VIIF as the sample; they are control group and experimental group.To get the data, the researcher uses written test as an instrument (pre-test and post-test). The tests are multiple choices and matching types (consisting of 30 items).The researcher needs a data analysis. This analysis is relative to the computation in answering the problem statement. They are descriptive analysis and inferential analysis using t-test.
After collecting the data and analyzing them, the researcher presents the result of the research. The result of this research shows that food packages are effective in improving vocabulary. It is found that the result of t-value is 4.90. Based on the 0.05 significance level, the value of t-table is 2.000, the computation shows that t-value is higher than t-table, which is 4.90 > 2.000. Thus, the result of the study the researcher concludes that the use of food packages is effective in improving English vocabulary mastery at the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 23 Purworejo in the academic year 2012/2013. It can be seen from gained score control group and experimental group which is given the treatment. The experimental group is higher than control group. It means that Ho is rejected whereas Ha is accepted.
