THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING ENGLISH CARICATURE ON JAKARTA POST TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ WRITING ABILITY IN NEWS ITEM TEXT AT THE TENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMA N 1 KERTEK IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2012/ 2013

Abstract


The purpose of this research is to find out whether English caricature is effective or not for teaching writing in news item text at the tenth grade students of SMA N 1 Kertek in the academic year 2012/2013. The type of this research is experimental research. The result of the research finds that the mean score of pre-test in experimental group is 61.4 and the mean score of post-test is 71.4. While the mean score of pre-test in control group is 59.3 and the mean score of post-test is 64.1. Then the value of t-test is 5.03 and the t-table is 2.000. Then the researcher consults the critical value on the t-table using 5% (0.05) alpha level significance and the degree of freedom is 2.000. The result of computation shows that t-value is higher than t-table, that is 5.03>2.000 so it can be stated that the hypothesis “English Caricature as a media to improve students’ writing ability in news item text is effective” is accepted.
