The Correlation between the Students’ Interest in Listening to English Song with Their Vocabulary Mastery in the Eighth Grade of SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Kebumen in the Academic Year of 2012/2013
Abstract
This research is aimed to know is there any correlation between the students’ interest in listening to English song with their vocabulary mastery and how far the correlation between the students’ interest in listening to English song with their vocabulary mastery in the eighth grade of SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Kebumen in the academic year of 2012/2013. It was conducted at SMP 2 Muhammadiyah Kebumen in the academic year of 2012/2013 with correlation method. This research uses quantitative method as type of research. The population in this research is the eighth grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Kebumen that consists of 196 students from 6 classes. From the population, the researcher took one class namely VIII-B as a sample that consists of 29 students. The researcher used purposive sampling technique as a sampling technique. The research instrument that is used are a test and a questionnaire. The researcher analyzes the data using Pearson Product Moment Correlation with SPSS 17.0 for Windows to find out the correlation between two variables. The result of the analysis is r = 0.636. The researcher concludes that the students’ interest in listening to English song has a high correlation with their vocabulary mastery in the eighth Grade of SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Kebumen in the Academic Year of 2012/2013.
