Vernacular language in Student’s Speech Production in Discussion and Debate Class (A Case Study in Student Fourth Semester Muhammadiyah University of Purworejo)
Abstract
This study is aimed at describing vernacular which was found in English Department Muhammadiyah University of Purworejo, especially in the fourth semester. First, the researcher wants to know the language of students when they talk in English, especially in the fourth semester of English Department Muhammadiyah University of Purworejo. Second, the researcher wants to know the vernacular language when they talk and the speech which they produce. Discussion and debate class is the appropriate class to analyze the vernacular language. The result from the analysis, the researcher found the 39 vernacular languages in the conversation in discussion and debate class. The vernacular language which was found in this class is vernacular with the unmodified. The example of this vernacular language is broad (medhok). It means that vernacular language is still adhering in their daily talk, especially in the student of English Department muhammadiyah of Purworejo, especially fourth semester in the academic year of 2012/2013.
